Ross & Brown clients the Craft Beer Clan of Scotland have announced a major deal with Asda to stock 9 Clan Brewers in their 61 Scottish Stores.

Scotland’s first NHS-run Convenience Store opens in Aberdeen

The first NHS-run Convenience Store opened today  in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI), Aroma by Simply Fresh developed with Ross & Brown.

Pioneered by Health Facilities Scotland, the new Aroma convenience store will be managed and operated by the NHS Grampian facilities team with all profits reinvested in frontline patient care initiatives.
 
The store, the result of a partnership between Health Facilities Scotland and upmarket grocery group SimplyFresh, is an extension of the popular Aroma café in the foyer of ARI’s Emergency Department.
 
The Aroma store will be overseen by Health Facilities Scotland; its Assistant Director John Wright, said, “We are delighted to pioneer the latest development in the Health Facilities Scotland Aroma portfolio. We have partnered up with SimplyFresh to deliver what we think will bring an exciting new look to NHS retail services and provide many more healthier food options for patients, visitors and staff.”
 
Aroma Convenience by SimplyFresh  will operate seven days a week and will add to the 24 Aroma cafes across NHS Scotland, five in NHS Wales and two in NHS Pennine. The concept was developed with award-winning food and drink consultants Ross & Brown, completing a project spanning the last 12 months.
 
The convenience store will follow Scottish Government Healthcare Retail standards, with at least 50% of food produce and 70% of drinks meeeting their salt, fat and sugar content guidelines.
Kash Khera, managing director of SimplyFresh said: “Our ethos is all about healthy eating and best of British products, so we’re delighted to be part of this pilot project.  We now have more than 86 stores within the SimplyFresh stable and this trial is a great way of introducing Scottish customers to the brand.”

Craig Brown, Managing Director at Ross & Brown commented: “Simon & I have been working with National Services Scotland’s Aroma brand team for 18 months now, to take this project from a conceptual idea through to site development. Leading the selection process for the NHS Grampian trial in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary that selected Simply Fresh as the trial partner. Latterly we have worked with Simply Fresh to develop their basket of goods with an emphasis on the Scottish Governments Healthy Living Plus Accreditation and also looking at local sourcing, this allowed local soft drinks producer Anne Thomson to gain a listing for her Ella Drinks Range. Overall we are extremely proud of the store and we look forward to supporting the concept rollout, if successful, to other authorities.”
 
NHS Grampian welcomed the addition of the store to the other Aroma outlets in its Board, and is looking forward to receiveing feedback from customers about the new development.
